Rumors are circulating on social media that Microsoft, the multinational technology giant, is using MS Word and MS Excel user data to train its AI models.
As Microsoft becomes heavily involved in the AI ecosystem, reports suggest that such action is credible for the company, but would it be? To address these accusations, Microsoft has decided to take these concerns into their own hands and clarify all these questions once and for all.
As reported According to News18, this confusion stemmed from a privacy setting in Microsoft Office that allowed features like online image search or any internet search, but these settings did not specify AI training in their recognition.
Concerns about user data began when Microsoft asked users to opt out of its “connected experiences” feature. Users claimed that this feature was used to train the company’s AI models.
While clarifying, a Microsoft spokesperson told Reuters that these claims are false and the company does not use any data from Microsoft 365 and its business applications to train large language models (LMM).
The spokesperson further added that “connected experiences” enable features such as co-creation and cloud storage, which are not connected to the company’s AI training facilities.
Microsoft is not the only big tech company that has faced this issue, before this other companies like Adobe and Google have also faced the same issues with their content policy and AI Gemini.
