Summary
-
The AMD RX 9070 XT offers better value than the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti because it costs less while being almost as fast, and because FSR 4 is a fantastic upgrade compared to FSR 3, offering better image quality than DLSS 3.
-
The RTX 50 GPUs provide minimum performance gains compared to the previous generation while sporting higher prices and suffering from multiple problems.

The RX 9070 XT is a substantial upgrade of my RTX 3070, offering play performance about 80% higher and increasing the amount of memory from 8 GB to 16 GB.
After more than four years, it is time to withdraw my faithful RTX 3070. But instead of going to another NVIDIA GPU, as I have done since the last decade, I have ordered an AMD RX 9070 XT.
This is not a decision that I made lightly, but in the end, there are several reasons why the next generation of AMD graphics cards checked the boxes. The price plays a little role, but the availability and the presence of material problems too. The most positive return is perhaps the return of AMD as a business which can again compete with Nvidia.
The RX 9070 XT offers more value than the RTX 5070 Ti
Looking at their MSRP, the RX 9070 XT has more value than the RTX 5070 Ti, the card on which I was initially a view. The difference of noRay traced The game performance is less than 10%, the Nvidia card being about 15% faster Ray tracedBut the AMD card is 20% more affordable.
Even when I take into account street prices, the RX 9070 XT always offers more value. Here in Europe, I managed to mark an RX 9070 XT for € 810, or 17% compared to the EU PDSF (€ 689). On the other hand, the most affordable RTX 5070 TI would cost me around € 1120, 27% above its € 884 PDSF EU and 320 or 28% euros higher than what I paid for my RX 9070 XT. I don’t know about you, but this case is not very attractive to me.
The situation in the United States is better but far from perfect. You can find a few lists of PDSF RX 9070 XT, but they will probably remain out of stock. If we are realistically looking, an RX 9070 XT will cost you about $ 730 unless you live near a micro-center.
On the other hand, if we do not take into account the RTX 5070 Ti MSRP and Micro Center announcements, you will have to pay at least $ 900 for an RTX 5070 Ti, which is almost $ 200 higher than the RX 9070 XT price and, personally, is not worth the thin performance bump that you get with RTX 5070 Ti.
The RTX 50 series barely offers improvements compared to the 40 series
I had intended to replace my RTX 3070 aging for some time now. At the end of last year, I decided to wait instead of obtaining a Super RTX 4080 to see what the RTX 50 series will bring and if AMD will have an answer with its DNA 4 architecture. In the worst case, I could hang on a used RTX 4080 for less than € 1,000, right?
And oh my boy, I was disappointed with Nvidia. Not only does the RTX 50 series, apart from the RTX 5090, brought elements of disappointing performance during the previous generation, but the cards are somehow even more expensive. The RTX 5070 TI costs almost as much as you have to pay for the RTX 4080 Super at the end of 2024 while offering an increase in zero performance. The only upgrade you get is DLSS Multi-trames generationWhat I have no interest in.
Due to RTX 50 pricing if bad, I can’t even get a super RTX 4080/4080 used at a reasonable price. Used cards are listed for more than 1,000 euros here, which is crazy.

Conversely, the RX 9070 XT provides a massive performance bump on the RX 7800 XT, the card it replaces (technically, it replaces the 7700XT, but the RX 7800 XT should have transported the nickname 7700). You get a 36% performance bump without tracing rays, with more than 40% uprising when activating the tracing effects of the rays. It is a generational uprising which I am satisfied with.
AMD FSR 4 scaling can finally compete with DLSS
I will be honest here: if FSR 4 were a disappointment and significantly worse than DLSS 3 The scaling, I would have been thinking for a long time to go to an RTX 5070 Ti. I use a 3440×1440 Ultra-reality instructorAnd even if I stream games For my ally Asus Rog, scaling is a must when I play on ultrairs. And the FSR 3 and older versions of the high -level image quality demolish absolutely.
Sparkling and blurred image, temporal artefacts, bad texture clarity, immense problems with the resolution of fine details such as the foliage – the continuous list. Due to its small screen, I agree with the FSR 3 and older versions during the execution of games on my ally Rog. But on a large instructor, these problems completely ruin the experience.
Fortunately, Frs 4 is a massive victory For AMD. The company finally published a speaker based on automatic learning which prevails over DLSS 3, which is commendable. Of course, FSR 4 is always a bit behind DLSS 4 The scaling, but I am ready to accept small compromises to the clarity of the textures and the stability of the image if I pay almost a third less than what I would pay for a Nvidia GPU.

The RX 9070 XT is an excellent upgrade of my aging RTX 3070
Compared to my RTX 3070, the RX 9070 XT offers more than 60% higher performance in the shelves tracing titles and approximately 80% of better performance in rater. I will gladly make these improvements, thank you very much.
But the most important upgrade goes today anemic8 GB of video memory at 16 GB. RTX 3070 is always a very competent card, even for 1440p games. But limited memory stamp means that, even if the card has enough raw power for high or ultra parameters, you must make compromises by lowering the quality of textures, shadows and other options with high memory intensity to achieve acceptable performance.
Although I can technically play certain games with the tracing of the rays, activating the tracing effects of the shelves generally works well for about a few minutes before the memory pad does not overflow and the game turns into slideshow.

I want to avoid the problems of the 50 series of Nvidia
The RX 9070 XT comes with two or three 8 -pin power supply connectors, depending on the model. However, Nvidia has decided to keep the 16-pin 12vhpwr connector for its RTX 50 GPUs. The new connector, 12V-2X6, is a minor revision that solves any problem distressing The 12VHPWR.
In one way or another, Nvidia made the 12V-2X6 connector found on RTX 50 cards Even worse that the 12VHPWR. This has led to more frequent cases of power cables and connectors fusion On the GPUs RTX 5080 and RTX 5090. Said problem will continue to affect these GPUs unless NVIDIA becomes the printed circuits on these GPUs and includes a better protection solution against fuses or completely abandons 12V-2X6. By its appearance, none will occur.
Now, it seems that the RTX 5070 TI is not affected by this problem because the card uses less energy than high-end RTX 50 options, but I prefer not to manage the 12V-2X6 unless I have any other choice.
I should use an adapter because my PSU is not delivered with a 16 -pin power connector, and I should fold it because my case is too narrow, which is not what manufacturers recommend. Since the RX 9070 XT comes with regular power connectors, I don’t have to worry about it.
What the RX 9070 XT does not suffer either Missing rops (Make the output units), another problem affecting GPU RTX 50. In a word, the ROPs are part of the rendering pipeline; The less there are, the slower the GPU will be. According to tests Made by Nexus players, you are considering performance up to 10% slower if your card is assigned, which is a massive fall.
Again, I prefer not to worry about the card that I was defective, pushing 10% of executives less than it is supposed to do it. Then you have the RMA process, which is always painful, especially because you have to wait for weeks before getting a new card. I just prefer to get the card, put it inside the case and not have to open Gpu-z As soon as the system is checking if I should return it less than an hour after arriving.
In the end, I trust my decision to opt for an RX 9070 XT instead of an RTX 5070 Ti. It is not something that I could see myself saying a few years ago, but the resurgence of AMD as a force with which it is necessary to count in the GPU game is a welcome development. All I have to do now is to wait until next week for the card to arrive, and I’m gilded.
I am more than satisfied with the performance bump that I will overcome my RTX 3070; 16 GB of memory are right for a card at the price of this height, and the card contains enough power to allow me to enjoy high rate Games with maximum details (and even certain tracing effects of activated rays) for at least a few years.
