Apple adds two new votes to Siri’s English offers and eliminates the selection of default “female voice” in the latest beta version of iOS. This means that each person who installs Siri will choose a voice for himself and that he will no longer be by default that the vocal assistant is a woman, a subject that has come a bit Regarding the vocal interfaces in recent years.
The beta version should be live now and available for program participants.
I believe that it is the first of these assistants to make the completely agnostic choice without default selection. This is a positive step forward because it allows people to choose the voice they prefer without the default entering into play. The two new voices also bring a well -necessary variety to Siri’s voices, offering more diversity in sound and the word model to a user who picks a voice that speaks to them.
In some countries and languages, Siri is already by default a male voice. But this change makes the choice of users for the first time.
“We are delighted to present two new SIRI voices for English speakers and the Siri users to select the voice they want when they configure their device,” said Apple instruction. “This is a continuation of Apple’s long -standing commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the products and services designed to better reflect the diversity of the world in which we live.”
The two new voices use source talent recordings which are then carried out through Apple’s neural text to the vocal engine, which means that the voices circulate more organically through sentences which are really generated on the fly.
I heard the new voices and they seem quite fantastic, with a natural inflection and gentle transitions. They will be a welcome addition of choice for iOS users. Here are some samples of votes in action:

This latest beta version also improves Siri votes to Ireland, Russia and Italy to neural TTS, bringing total votes using new technology at 38. Siri now manages 25 billion requests per month over 500 million aircraft and supports 21 languages in 36 countries.

New votes are available for English -speaking users around the world and SIRI users can select a personal preference for voice in 16 languages.
It seems very likely that these two new voices are only the first expansion of Siri’s voice selections. More diversity in voice, tone and regional dialect can only be positive for how intelligent inclusive devices feel. In recent years, we have finally started to see movements from Amazon, Google and Apple to aggressively correct situations where assistants have revealed a bias in their responses to requests that use negative or abusive language. Improvements there, as well as in requests on social justice subjects and overall accessibility improvements, are incredibly essential while we continue to see an explosion of vocal or vocal interfaces. These types of choice count, in particular on a scale of hundreds of millions of people.
Article updated to note that in some countries and languages, Siri is currently by default a male voice.
