As the year draws to a close, Google looks back at what users searched for most across several categories.
In a Keyword publishingthe company has highlighted various top trending searches for various user interests, like AI. Google has highlighted what users are searching for most since the arrival of Circle to Search, as well as Google Lens. The post says users used both tools to translate, purchase, and “identify items” in 2024.
Additionally, the company adds that users typically combined a search with “how to use” when visually searching for an item.
Google Maps was added because the message indicates that users searched for information about the Las Vegas Sphere and Arena di Verona in Italy this year.
Circle to Search launched earlier this year alongside the Galaxy S24 series and Pixel 8 before hitting other phones. Additionally, Google Lens has received some cool improvements, such as the ability for users to record videos.
Speaking of AI and search, in Google’s main “Year in Search” overview, the company highlighted the songs users were humming the most on its engine.

According to Google, its data shows that people searched for (in order) US elections, excessive heat, Olympics, Hurricane Milton and 台風気象情報台風第10号 (Typhoon No. 10 around Japan) the largest this year.
When it comes to “People,” Google says the most popular searches were Donald Trump, Catherine Princess of Wales, Kamala Harris, Imane Khelif and Joe Biden.
In the “Sports” category, the New York Yankees took first place, followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Inter Miami CF, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and the Boston Celtics. And finally, in “Gaming”, the most popular searches were for Connections, Palworld, Infinite Craft, Sprunki and Helldivers 2.
In November, Google detailed its top apps and games via the Play Store for 2024. Partiful won the “Best App of 2024” award for its reinvention of event planning. For mobile games, AFK Journey took home the award for “Best Game,” while Max took the cake for “Best Cross-Device App.”
Other noteworthy mentions include Hoyoverse’s Honkai: Star Rail for “Best Current Game,” PBS Kids Video for “Best for Cars,” and Taran Matharu’s Dragon Rider for 2024’s “Favorite Fantasy” book.
