Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan on Tuesday retracted his earlier statement about artificial intelligence (AI) and warned that AI could lead to exploitation and wealth accumulation. Speaking after inaugurating the delegates meeting of the CPI(M) Idukki district conference at Thodupuzha on Tuesday, Mr. Govindan said that AI would result in the accumulation of wealth in a corporate society, and it would result in unemployment in the world.
Recently Mr. Govindan had said that artificial intelligence would pave the way for socialism.
Mr. Govindan further said that if wealth concentrated in a few hands the situation in the country would be such that over 60 per cent of people will become unemployed and their purchasing power will be hit. “If we examine the state of Kerala, 87% of the wealth is held by 10% of people, and the balance 50 percent of the population holds just three percent of the wealth. “When AI holds its influence in society, it will result in increased inequality,” said Mr. Govindan.
Meanwhile, Mr. Govindan further claimed that he never changed his stance about AI.
Reacting to the low allocation of the Union Budget, the CPI(M) State secretary said that everyone should raise their voice against the Central government’s stand against Kerala. “If there are no joint efforts, they will not be ready to allot any funds to Kerala. The Chief Minister and Finance Minister already said that the State government will continue the developmental initiatives to ensure growth,” said Mr. Govindan.
According to party leaders, the delegate’s meeting will continue on Wednesday and Thursday. A total of 358 members are participating in the three-day-long district conference. On Tuesday morning, senior CPI(M) leader and Udumbanchola MLA M.M. Mani hoisted the flag of the district conference. On Thursday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the public meeting.
