Latin America. In 2020, Sony AI, a unit of the company dedicated to artificial intelligence research, was created in order to advance AI so that it augments and works in harmony with humans to benefit society, enrich interactions, and elevate creative endeavors.
The agency’s research has focused on the areas of imaging and sensing, gaming, ethics, scientific discovery, robotics, and content creation.
TVyVideo+Radio spoke with Sony’s Gonzalo Gamio, who stressed that today the company is focused on AI research in aspects such as the development of the most reliable Detection Platform; transform the way we interact with digital environments, with more realistic teammates and opponents and with richer experiences; leading the way with ethical AI that protects the interests of AI users and creators; exploring the relationship between AI and the physical world; and discover where AI inspires unprecedented creativity.
As for the actual application of AI in Sony’s solutions, today it can be found mainly in cameras and the Ci Media Cloud platform. He pointed out that “AI is playing an increasingly preponderant role and with high acceptance among users of both broadcast and corporate productions or event production companies. We have integrated AI into some models of our cameras for specific functions such as AI-directed autofocus or PTZ Autoframing in some robotic camera models such as the SRG-A12, SRG-A40, BRC-AM7 and soon on the ILME-FR7.”
He added, “These two features tangibly help the camera operator while also expanding the creative options. In addition, in our Ci Media Cloud platform, we have integrated an optional AI analytics feature to be able to identify objects within a video sequence or a photo and this results in a more efficient search within the database.
According to Gamio, interest in AI is becoming a topic of rising interest, it is in practically all conversations and there is a huge expectation for manufacturers and developers to integrate more and more AI-based features into cameras and services in order to optimize the operation and be more effective in costs.
