Artificial intelligence: fundamental and applied research and standards
NIST develops tools to measure and understand the capacities and limits of artificial intelligence technologies (AI). The role of NIST in AI is to develop basic and applied research which leads to trust -to -trust AI systems. NIST works with the AI community to establish the technical requirements necessary to cultivate the confidence that AI systems are accurate and reliable, safe and secure, explainable and without bias. The NIST also seeks to future IA IT paradigms beyond current IT architectures.
During the 2018 financial year, the NIST launched the research program and fundamental standards and applied for AI (Farsait) technologies, which is designed to advance basic and applied IA research to NIST.
The fundamental research of Farsait AI aims to develop a guide of metrologue on AI systems which addresses the complex interpretation of different aspects of trustworthy AI as well as terminology and taxonomy in that concerns the several layers of IA space. The guide will examine the impact on social standards, decision -makers, AI measurement and the development and deployment of AI.
Farsait applied AI research promotes the application of AI techniques to NIST research programs in fields such as the advanced discovery of materials, robotic systems in manufacturing environments and network control systems without thread.
To ensure that technical standards reflect federal priorities for innovation, public confidence and confidence in systems that use AI technologies, NIST participates in the development of international standards To promote competitiveness.
Financing possibilities are available via subsidies and cooperative agreements via the Research program in science and measurement engineering (MSE).
