Amazon has announced a series of new AI core models under a new “Nova” brand that will be available as part of the Amazon Bedrock Model Library in AWS.
The company is also training a model called Amazon Nova Premier, which it says will be “our highest-performing multimodal model for complex reasoning tasks.” Amazon aims to make Nova Premier available “early 2025.”
Amazon also offers content generation templates: Amazon Nova Canvas, an image generation template, and Amazon Nova Reel, a video generation template. The company says these models have “watermarking capabilities” to “promote responsible use of AI.” As an example of what is possible with Nova Reel, Amazon shared this false advertisement for a false brand of pasta.
Later in 2025, Amazon plans to launch a text-to-speech model and a “multimodal to multimodal native” model, according to a blog article.
Amazon announced these new models at its AWS re:Invent conference, which is currently taking place in Las Vegas. At the show, the company also said it was building a massive AI computing cluster that builds on its Trainium 2 chips in partnership with Anthropic (in which it invested $8 billion). “Once completed, it is expected to be the world’s largest AI computing cluster available today on which Anthropic can build and deploy its future models,” according to Amazon.
The company, like many other big tech players, is working to launch new AI products and features to stay ahead of new companies like OpenAI. Amazon might have an advantage since internet infrastructure is already powered by AWS: Larger companies might be more willing to use Amazon’s AI offerings because the company already has a trusted reputation. An executive from Apple itself appeared on stage today at re:Invent to talk about how the company leverages Amazon’s custom AI chips.
