According to Hassabis, who jointly won the Nobel Prize with Americans David Baker and John Jumper for revealing the secrets of proteins using AI, the main problem is defining the purpose, deployment and ensuring that artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.
In this regard, British-Canadian Hinton, considered the “godfather of AI”, said he would have liked to think about security earlier, reflecting his concerns about how AI could potentially intensifying the arms race. He gained attention last year after leaving Google for warning of the risks of AI one day becoming smarter than humans and received a Nobel Prize alongside American John Hopfield for his work on artificial neural networks.
President-elect Donald Trump has promised deregulation and also shared his views on repealing President Joe Biden’s executive order on AI after he takes office in January. In light of this, Axios reported that the US government has approved the export of advanced artificial intelligence chips to a facility in the United Arab Emirates as part of the company’s closely watched partnership with Emirati AI company G42. Concerns have been raised about the transfer of sensitive technology to China, and the approved export license includes strict conditions to prevent access to the facility by personnel from countries subject to a US arms embargo.
