AI Transformation Requires Security Transformation
Before the official launch of Microsoft Ignite, hundreds of security and IT professionals gathered early for the Microsoft Ignite Security Forum to hear from Microsoft security product leaders about Microsoft’s research into threat intelligence and AI, among other security strategy topics. Then, on the first day of Microsoft Ignite, the event kicked off with an exciting event opening speech speech that explained how Microsoft is creating powerful new opportunities across its platforms as the AI era takes shape, including in security. Satya Nadella, President and CEO of Microsoft, kicked off the discussion on security innovations by highlighting the changes to come. Microsoft Competency.
“In the age of AI, data governance plays an even more critical, central and important role,” Nadella said.
The keynote concluded with Charlie Bell, Microsoft’s executive vice president of security, joined by the company’s vice president, Microsoft Security Business, Vasu Jakkal. The two provided insight into the current security landscape and the innovations Microsoft Security is implementing to help defenders address their challenges.
“Security is job number one in the AI era,” Jakkal said, emphasizing that one of the most critical use cases for trustworthy AI is supporting security professionals. Microsoft itself recently brought generative AI to its security teams with Microsoft Security Copilot and used generative AI developed in its research labs to identify potentially exposed credentials that could have been used by actors of cyberthreat. These security leaders also explained how securing and governing AI and the data it uses can help drive AI innovation and unify and simplify security for everyone.
Among the most exciting news was the announcement that Managing Microsoft Security Exposures is now generally available. This innovative new solution provides security professionals with a graph-based approach to proactive threat protection. It dynamically creates a comprehensive view of the entire attack surface, enabling exploration of assets and their changing relationships with login credentials, permissions, and other ways users connect to data. the company. This allows for more in-depth assessments of your organization’s security posture and exposure.
Microsoft also shared the latest report on the Secure Future Initiative (SFI), prioritizing security above all else, establishing industry-leading governance and frameworks to manage large-scale threats, and better deterring even the world’s most powerful and well-funded cyber threat actors. This will be done in part by minimizing excessive authorization, reducing credential risks, and establishing and maintaining comprehensive asset inventories.
There was also a lot of interest around Microsoft Security Copilot. Nearly 70% of Fortune 500 companies are already using Microsoft 365 Copilot.¹ The Copilot stack has already begun to enable users to create even more ambitious products, and this trend is expected to continue with the announcement of Azure AI Foundrywhich gives organizations the power to design, customize and manage next-generation AI applications and agents at scale. Microsoft Security Copilot is now integrated into the Microsoft Enter administration center, offering new identity management features. The solution will also add new features across Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Purview, Azure Logic Apps, and the Microsoft partner ecosystem.
And during Microsoft’s general security session, titled Security innovation to strengthen cyber defense in the AI eraSpeakers Joy Chik, Rob Lefferts, Michael Wallent, Herain Oberoi and Vasu Jakkal discussed how AI can be used to improve cyber defense mechanisms by predicting, detecting and responding to cyber threats more effectively. AI-based cyber threat detection, for example, already helps identify patterns and anomalies in network traffic. AI can also improve automated incident responses to further minimize negative impacts on organizations. The session also explored potential future trends in AI and its evolving role in cyber defense strategies.
