BacklineA new security startup that uses AI agents to automatically correct security vulnerabilities, comes out of stealth with a seed lap of $ 9 million led by Stageone Ventures.
This is the third startup of Maor Goldberg, co-founder and CEO of the company. He previously co-founded Whitebox Security, which he sold in Sailpoint in 2015, as well as the Apolicy container security start-up, which was acquired by Sysdig in 2021. In 2024, he left Sysdig to start the background with Eran Leib (chief of customers) and Aviad Chen (VP R&D).
The idea behind Backline is that the developers and security teams are drowning in security alerts.
“The only thing we have seen constantly, almost day, day, is that we, as an industry, we are drowning large organizations with problems,” said Goldberg. “They buy Sysdig, they buy Wizz, they buy Snyk – all these large companies and big names. Their job is to go to customers and tell them where they have problems. The reality is that these security teams buy these tools, but they cannot solve most of these problems. β
The security teams, after all, count on engineers to correct vulnerabilities, for example, or on the engineering teams of the platform to repair configuration errors.
“There is always a need for safety teams to hunt someone else in the organization. And all these teams, without exception, simply do not have time,” he said.
Backline can mainly take notifications from all these safety tools and start solving many of the problems. Service AI agents examine vulnerability, create a proposal to repair it, implement the necessary changes, then test them.
This test step is crucial, known as Backline, and was inspired by the way the material teams use formal methods to test their products. This said Goldberg is the only way to generate confidence with potential users.
To do this, the company uses models of large standard languages ββ(LLM). “All our intellectual property is built to pick up where (security digitization tools) stopped. There is a high priority problem that must be solved. Many (it is) to think of agents, how you collaborate together and how you bring the right people in the process,” said Goldberg.
Backline’s ambitions go beyond its current repair of software vulnerabilities. In the future, the company wishes to tackle the problems of software supply chain such as the search for exposed secrets, the solving identity and access problems and the security tests for static applications.
“Security arrears are now the first thing that keeps Ciso at night,” said Tal Slobodkin, partner of the Internshipone Ventures, and a donor from the previous startup of the founding team. βThe expertise in deep cybersecurity of backline combined with their vision of autonomous sanitation has a way to get out of the prioritization paradigm through multiple orders of improvement of the correction speed.
Evolution Equity Partners and Gradient also invested in the seed tour.
