OpenAI often talks about how it wants to make ChatGPT and its various AI tools available for free to as many users as possible. But the company is also moving more into paid businesses, and the latest costs $200/month.
ChatGPT Pro offers “unlimited” access to advanced models
OpenAI is set to launch a series of announcements over the next 12 days, some of which will be big news while others will be “Christmas presents,” according to CEO Sam Altman.
Before the first announcement, users discovered references on the OpenAI website to a brand new ultra-premium ChatGPT Pro subscription (via TechCrunch).
The kicker? It costs $200/month.
As you can see from the features list above, ChatGPT Pro is expected to include unlimited access to models like o1 and GPT-4o, as well as unlimited advanced voice mode and a new o1 mode.
It’s also significantly more expensive than the existing ChatGPT Plus plan, which costs $20/month.
Corroborating this report, another user separately discovered a reference in “o1 pro mode” when using ChatGPT. It’s not yet clear whether o1 pro mode will be exclusive to ChatGPT Pro users, but it seems likely.
According to the leaked image, o1 pro mode “uses more calculation for the best answers to the most difficult questions.”
Update: OpenAI has confirmed ChatGPT Pro details and monthly price.
Take from 9to5Mac
$200/month is a huge ask for users, so I can’t imagine there will be a huge market for it. That said, if you’re relying on ChatGPT to make money, it could very well be worth the extra cash for unlimited access and the new “o1 pro” mode.
What do you think of the $200/month price? Will this new plan have a big market? Let us know in the comments.
