Since we first announced the new consumer Copilot in October, we’ve loved seeing how people have taken to Copilot. It helped people think through their ideas and gain a new perspective, made it less difficult to find the right information, and even helped people feel supported as they navigated difficult situations.
Since we first announced the new consumer Co-pilot in October, we loved seeing how people made Copilot their own. It helped people think through their ideas and gain a new perspective, made it less difficult to find the right information, and even helped people feel supported in difficult conversations. Over the past few weeks, we’ve taken feedback from our users and worked to further improve the speed, simplicity, and personality of Copilot and its voice to make it a more useful AI companion.
With this goal in mind, starting today, we’re introducing an experience where – with your permission – Copilot can now understand the full context of what you do online. When you choose to activate Copilot Vision, it sees the page you are on, it reads with you, and you can discuss together the problem you are facing. Browsing no longer has to be a solitary experience with just you and all your tabs. We’re taking the first step toward making this a reality by rolling out Copilot Vision in preview to a limited number of Pro subscribers via Co-pilot laboratories.
Vision is the first AI experience of its kind, available only on Microsoft Edge. It’s a new way to invite AI alongside you as you browse the web, neatly tucked away at the bottom of your Edge browser whenever you want to ask for help. It’s almost like having a second pair of eyes while you navigate: simply activate Copilot Vision to instantly scan, analyze and offer insights based on what it sees.
For example, imagine it helps you plan a fun day at a museum, telling you all the information you need to know before your visit.
Or maybe Vision could help you with your holiday shopping by showing you which products you see on a page that match your needs and preferences.
The vision could even simplify information and learning. Watch Vision helps us learn how to play a new game, like Geoguessr.
Your privacy is important
By creating Copilot Vision, we made your security, control and privacy the top priority. For starters, Vision is entirely optional, so you decide when to enable it as a second pair of eyes on the web. Additionally, once you end a session with Vision, all data about what you say and the context you share with Copilot is deleted. Every time you use Vision, your data is processed and protected in accordance with the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Only Copilot responses are recorded to improve our safety systems.
First comments
Vision is still an experimental experience. As we roll this out, Vision will only interact with a select set of websites to begin with. Over time, we will cautiously expand this list. It is important to emphasize that Vision does not capture, store or use any data from publishers to train our models. In short, we prioritize copyrights, creators, and the privacy and security of our users – and we prioritize them all.
We’re encouraged by the early feedback, working closely with a group of impartial testers outside of Microsoft to help us make this a useful and safe experience from the start. Some of those we’ve worked with are third-party publishers, who are helping us understand how Vision could be used to help people better engage and make decisions on their pages. These contributions will help us design Vision to be more useful in the way it interacts with web pages.
Availability
We’re rolling out Vision carefully, first targeting a limited number of Copilot Pro subscribers in the US, through Copilot Labs. As mentioned, Vision will initially only work on a select set of websites. We’re taking our time to collect feedback, iterate on the technology, and expand access to more Pro subscribers and more websites over time.
Thanks again to everyone who uses Copilot and shares feedback on what works and what can be improved. This is how we will make AI more supportive and truly useful.
