Japan is allocating another 1.5 trillion yen ($9.9 billion) to boost its chip and artificial intelligence efforts, including the Moonshot Rapidus Corp foundry project.
The government’s supplementary budget for the fiscal year through March sets aside 1.05 trillion yen for development and research in areas related to next-generation chips and quantum computers, as well as another 471.4 billion yen for support domestic production of advanced chips. No decision has been made as to how much of this sum will go to Rapidus, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
