The media must be proactive in shaping Artificial Intelligence’s (AI’s) role in journalism and care should be taking in protecting the vast amounts of data they are sitting on, according to Dr Toussant Boyce.
The Guyana Press Association on Thursday evening hosted a lecture on the theme “Reporting in a Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom.” The event was held at the Herdmanston Lodge in Georgetown.
The forum explored the promise and various implications of AI in the newsroom, with a focus on its impact on press freedom, editorial responsibility, and the “future of truth” in a rapidly evolving digital age.
Delivering the feature presentation was Dr Boyce, Head of the Independent Office of Integrity, Compliance and Accountability at the Caribbean Development Bank. Tying the conversation to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) particularly SDG 16, which promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions—Dr. Boyce emphasized the link between responsible AI use and press freedom.
