Meta has announced a series of new chatbots to use in its Messenger service.
Chatbots will have a “personality” and will specialize in certain subjects, such as holidays or cooking advice.
This is the last salvo of a chatbot arms race between desperate technological companies to produce more precise and personalized artificial intelligence.
Chatbots are always a work in progress with “limitations,” said boss Mark Zuckerberg.
In California, during the first event in person in Meta since before the pandemic, Mr. Zuckerberg said that it was an “incredible year for AI”.
The company calls its main chatbot “meta ai” and can be used in messaging. For example, users can ask Meta IA questions in the cat “to settle the arguments” or ask other questions.
The BBC has not yet tested the chatbot which is based on LLAMA 2, the model of large language that the company published for public commercial use in July.
Several celebrities have also registered to lend their personalities to different types of chatbots, including Snoop Dogg and Kendall Jenner.
The idea is to create chatbots that are not only designed to answer questions.
“It will not only be to respond to requests,” said Zuckerberg. “This is entertainment”.
According to Meta, the star of the NFL Tom Brady will play a character of the AI entitled “Bru”, “a Wisecracking sports debate” and the star of Youtube Mrbeast will play “Zach”, a big brother “who will roast”.
Mr. Zuckerberg said there were still “many limitations” around what robots could answer.
Chatbots will be deployed in the coming days and only in the United States at the start.
Zuckerberg has also discussed Metaversse – a virtual world – which is a concept on which Mr. Zuckerberg has so far spent tens of billions of dollars.
Although Meta has already announced her new virtual reality headset, Quest 3, the company gave more details during the event.
The Meta boss described the helmet as the first mixed reality headset “general public”. The cameras facing the front will mean that the helmet will allow an augmented reality. It will be available from October 10.
The large long -term bet of the company on the metavese still seems to pay, the VR division of Meta suffering from $ 21 billion (17 billion pounds sterling) in losses since the beginning of 2022.
The quest 3 intervened after Apple entered the market for more expensive mixed reality equipment with The Vision Pro earlier this year.
Mat Day, Director of the Global Game Strategy for Essencemediacom, said that Mark Zuckerberg had “invigorated” the virtual reality sector.
“Meta’s VR roadmap is now firmly positioned around equipment at mass market price. It is a striking contrast with Apple’s approach which is aimed at the enthusiasm of high -end technology” , he said.
Meta’s announcement came the same day as Rival Openai, the Chatgpt Microsoft back creator, confirmed Her chatbot can now travel internet To provide users with current information. The system powered by artificial intelligence was previously formed only by using data until September 2021.
