Microsoft (Msft,, Financial) and Google (Goog,, Financial)) take the heat of the legislators On their IA partnerships with big money. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ron Wyden want answers to find out if the treaties of technology giants with Openai and Anthropic could give them too much control over the future of artificial intelligence.
In the letters sent this week, the senators said they feared that these partnerships would limit competition and end up the prices of companies and consumers who use AI tools. They underlined Microsoft’s deep financial links with the OPENAI and the recent investment of $ 1 billion from Google in Anthropic as examples of offers that could be too comfortable.
Their concerns? If the big cloud suppliers lock exclusive relationships with the best AI developers, small players may never have the chance to compete – and that could mean less choice and slower innovation.
Warren and Wyden also want to know the small print: Do these AI companies pay for cloud services? Do Microsoft and Google have exclusive rights on their technology? Is there the intention of acquiring them fully?
Letters are a sign that Washington examines more carefully how Big Tech shapes the AI space and which can play it.
