A large part of Apple Intelligence is still in beta, but notification summaries have become a hot topic in AppleThe first set of features focused on AI. He had some escaped, in particular by summarizing a story of the BBC on Luigi Mangione, who is the killer accused of the CEO of United Healthcare Brian Thompson, quite incorrectly.
It is not unknown for AI and these LLM (large models of language) which sometimes feed them, but it was particularly important. This led the BBC and other press organizations to ask Apple to repair or delete functionality before creating future errors. A few other points of sale, including the New York Times, has arrived, and Apple published a statement, noting that the functionality was in beta version and that a software update “would clarify more when the displayed text is the summary provided by Apple Intelligence “.
This also reminded us that Apple Intelligence users can always provide comments, and now we see results. In the latest beta (developer and public) of iOS 18.3, Apple temporarily disabled notification summaries for new and entertainment applications that completely correct criticism.
More false news
First, you can now deactivate notification summaries on an application basis by application, which means that you can deactivate it for all news applications if you wish. This is a welcome addition, and in the parameters> notifications> Summary of notifications, it even indicates that “summaries may contain errors.
As you scroll, you will see that news applications, as well as entertainment or streaming, could be activated but are labeled as “temporarily unavailable”. It is clear that Apple works behind the scenes to refine the summary process of the notification for them and it is likely that we will see them coming back in a next update, probably first in another beta version.
In addition, when you see these notification summaries on your locking screen, those that have been summarized will be displayed with italic text. This should facilitate seeing them in parallel with regular notifications, and you can, of course, draw to develop and see the original.
Overall, it’s great to see Apple reactive here, and since it is the latest beta version, it is likely that we will see these changes in the full version of 18.3 too. There is, of course, no exact timing at the time it happens, but we will not be sure to let you know as soon as it will.
