One of the many series of Linux kernel patches on which Nvidia has recently worked upstream of the main Linux nucleus is the necessary adjustments to Linux operating on their new Smart Switch network products for the data center.
The Nvidia Smart Switch SN4280 is part of its SN4000 Open Ethernet Switch family focused on the cloud, storage and AI with speeds up to 400 GBE and generally deployed during the execution Nvidia Cumulus Linux, Nvidia Onyx or Sonic. With the fixes they work upstream towards the main Linux nucleus, it reduces the Nvidia maintenance burden while opening up new possibilities for other Linux platforms to be deployed on the NVIDIA SM4280 SM4280 switch.
Likewise, the provisional Linux patches also support the new 2U switches from the NVIDIA SN5610 and SN5640 as well as the OCP SN2201 rack.
The series of patches describes this last activation work of the Smart Switch Nvidia platform as:
Provide support for the platform for the NVIDIA data processor (DPU) for the Smart Switch SN4280.
The intelligent switch equipped with:
– Nvidia Come module based on AMD Epyc ™ Embedded 3451 CPU.
– NVIDIA Spectrum-3 Asic.
– Four DPUs, each equipped with a BF3 processor based on NVIDIA BF3 and an FPGA LATTICE LFD2NX-40 device.
– External ports 28xQSFP-DD.
– Two power supplies.
– Four cooling drawers. The drivers support the management of the platform and the monitoring of the DPU components. It includes the management of health events, resets and start -up progress indications, implemented by the FPGA device.

SN5640 is a 51.2 TBPS switch based on NVIDIA SPC-5 ASIC. It provides a complete bidirectional bandwidth at 400 Gbit / s per port. The system supports 64 OSFP cages and is part of standard 2U racks.SN5640 Characteristics:
– 64 OSFP ports supporting 2.5 gbit / s – 400 gbit / s speeds.
– Air -cooled with redundant fan units 4 + 1.
– 2 + 2 redundant PSU 2000W.
– System management advice based on the AMD processor with secure boot support.SN5610 is a 51.2 TBPS switch based on NVIDIA SPC-4 ASIC. It provides a complete bidirectional bandwidth at 800 Gbit / s per port. The system supports 64 OSFP cages and is part of standard 2U racks.
SN5610 Characteristics:
– 64 OSFP ports supporting 10 Gbit / s – speeds of 800 Gbit / s.
– Air -cooled with redundant fan units 4 + 1.
– 2 + 2 redundant PSU 2000W.
– System management advice based on the AMD processor with secure boot support.
