The generative AI (Gen AI) experienced an unprecedented increase in interest among the developers, with a commitment to GPTS – a family of AI models – increasing by 3,600% from one year to the next.
Annual O’Reilly Technological trends for 2024 The report reveals which technological tools are increasing in popularity and which decrease, allowing organizational leaders to remain informed and to identify emerging trends that could shape their commercial strategies during the coming year.
Although linked to the emergence of Chatgpt at the end of 2022, the growth of GPT models is also a reflection of the accent put by developers on construction above GPT APIs and other language models.
Consequently, the treatment of natural language remains the subject of the most widely consumed AI and has seen a significant increase in use (195%). Related subjects such as generative models and transformers have also experienced huge gains, increasing 900% and 325% respectively. Rapid engineering, a subject that did not exist in 2022, quickly appeared as an important area of interest, attracting almost the same level of attention as transformers.
Security a subject of interest for developers in the era of the AI generation
Security is another subject that has experienced serious interests among developers, in particular with the rise of AI generation, with almost all related research subjects highlighting growth from 2022 to 2023.
According to O’Reilly Network, security was the most used subject, experienced 5% in annual shift, followed by governance (growth of 22%). The interest in applications safety subjects increased by 42%, and DevSecops experienced one of the highest increases (growth of 30%) in use among security subjects, signaling an evolution to the Incorporation of security throughout the software development process.
While mature programming languages like Python and Java continue to drive the most use among programming subjects on the O’Reilly, C ++ platform has experienced the most impressive use growth (10%) , which is increasingly important as AI becomes current. New languages linked to infrastructure have also continued to gain popularity, including rust (growth of 7.8%).
“This year marks a rare moment and really disruptive for industry, because the emergence of the AI generation promises significant changes to businesses and individuals,” said Mike LoukidesVice-president of the emerging technological content in O’Reilly. “AI efficiency gains do not replace expertise, however. Our data indicates a change for programming as we know it, with consequences for skills, employment prospects and IT management.
More than ever, Upskilling will become essential to prepare for new innovations during the coming year. »»
