The Global Data analyst company predicted collaborations between technology suppliers and the main players in the petroleum and gas industry on the integration of AI, IoT, Cloud and IT in the use of robotics would increase the growth in machines.
In a report on the status of the use of robotics in the sector, the company stressed that oil and gas companies have already become important adopters, using robots to increase the safety and efficiency of facilities.
The global oil and data gas analyst, Ravi will Ravira Puranik, has noted that “progress in technology has equipped robots to effectively replace staff on the field on oil platforms”, adding work between industry and technological companies have allowed the “diversification of robotic use cases by the integration of AI, IOT, EDGE and EDGE IT”.
“These developments should stimulate the future growth of robotics in the oil and gas sector, reducing the risks for human workers who operate alongside heavy machines in often distant and difficult environments,” he added.
The company cited the moves by Equinor, Totalengies and Shell in the deployment of robots to work alongside human staff on offshore sites, robotic automation being used in certain facilities to manage remote operations.
“Their ability to perform repetitive and banal tasks with a minimum of errors is to save time and internal resources for businesses,” added Puranik. “In addition, this allows them to deploy technicians on the ground on more critical issues.”
The integration of “terrestrial, air and submarine robots” has been recognized for playing a crucial role in “several petroleum and gas projects with high issues throughout the value chain” by the analyst.
