Eviden, a subsidiary of the Atos Group, has signed a €50 million contract with Serbia’s Office for IT and eGovernment to establish a National AI Factory.
The project is the first of its kind in the Balkans and will support universities, public institutions, and private sector organizations in deploying AI across strategic areas including healthcare, energy, and administration.
The new facility, designed as a complete AI Center of Excellence, will be located in GIFT City and integrates supercomputing, AI application development, and vertical sector expertise. It will be open to higher education institutions and researchers, reinforcing Serbia’s ambition to advance digital infrastructure and establish leadership in artificial intelligence.
The core of the project is Eviden’s BullSequana XH3000 supercomputer, developed at the company’s facility in France. Capable of delivering 25 PetaFlops of processing power, the machine includes 300 GPUs and 2.5 Petabytes of storage. It will be supported by the BullSequana AI platform and incorporate generative AI models from Mistral AI.
Alongside the technology deployment, Eviden will collaborate with universities and research bodies across Serbia to train AI engineers and academic staff. This is intended to create a pipeline of local talent and ensure the long-term sustainability of the AI Center of Excellence.
Regional AI ecosystem to support national infrastructure goals
Mihailo Jovanovic, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, said: “This partnership with Eviden, Europe’s leading supercomputing and AI player, is a historic moment for our country’s digital future, demonstrating the spirit of Franco-Serbian cooperation. It is not just a technological leap but a statement of our commitment to foster innovation, advance our economy and strengthen our position as regional leader in AI.”
The agreement also includes vertical support from Eviden AI specialists in Serbia, France, and the Czech Republic, who will help align sector-specific use cases with real-world applications in fields such as transport and public health.
Emmanuel Le Roux, Head of Advanced Computing at Eviden, Atos Group, added: “With its investment and current leading responsibility in the Global Partnership on AI, Serbia has been at the forefront of AI research and application in Europe. This one-of-a-kind project is yet another example of its commitment toward technological advance and economic growth, while contributing to the strategic cooperation between France and Serbia for AI and reinforcing the country’s technological sovereignty.”
