Washington – Biden administration on November 14 has published directives for the use of artificial intelligence in the electrical network, the water system, the network of air travel and other critical infrastructure pieces.
The private industry should adopt and implement the directives announced by the Department of Internal Security, which has been developed in consultation with the Ministry’s Artificial Security and Security Council.
Internal security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told journalists that “we want the framework to be, frankly, a living document and to change as industry developments as well.”
The framework recommends that the developers of the AI assess the potentially dangerous capacities of their products, ensure that their products align with “values centered on humans” and protect the confidentiality of users. The cloud -compuee infrastructure should examine suppliers of hardware and software and protect physical security from data centers.
Today, the DHS has published a set of recommendations for the development and secure deployment of AI in critical infrastructure, the “framework of roles and responsibilities for artificial intelligence in critical infrastructure”.

The owners and operators of critical infrastructure are invited to have more solid cybersecurity protocols which consider the risks linked to AI and to provide transparency on the way the AI is used. There are also guidelines for governments of states and premises.
When asked if the executive could change once the president elected Donald Trump was sworn in in January, Mayorkas stressed that he was implementing the policies of the administration of President Joe Biden.
“The elected president will determine the policies to promulgate and implement,” said Mayorkas. “And this is, of course, the prerogative of the elected president.”
