Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) is reportedly close to a deal to manufacture Nvidia’s latest AI chips at a new factory in the United States that is expected to start volume production in 2025.
Reuters reported that if a deal was reached, the contract manufacturer would make Blackwell chips at a factory in the US state of Arizona, while adding that the silicon would be shipped to Taiwan for packaging because the new factory would not have no chips on edge. required substrate capacity.
The company currently produces Nvidia’s Blackwell chips in Taiwan.
Taipei Timetable reported that TSMC’s first factory in Arizona is expected to begin manufacturing 4nm chips in early 2025, and a second factory is expected to produce 2nm chips by the end of the decade.
Taiwanese law prohibits TSMC from manufacturing chips overseas using its most advanced process node, which is currently 2nm.
TSMC is receiving $11.6 billion in grants and loans from the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act to build a third production facility in Arizona.
