TSMC presented the designers of American chips NVIDIA, the micro advanced devices and Broadcom on taking holdings in a joint venture that would exploit the factories of Intel, according to Reuters.
As part of the proposal, the Taiwanese giant of the manufacture of Tamias would manage the Foundry of Intel division, which manufactures custom -designed chips for customers, but it would not relax more than 50%, according to sources. Qualcomm was also approached by TSMC, according to one of the sources and a separate source.
The talks, who are still in the early stages, are following a request from the Trump administration for TSMC – the leading contractual manufacturer in the world – to help rekindle the giant of American semiconductors in difficulty, the sources said. They spoke under the guise of anonymity because the discussions are not public.
The details of the plan, including TSMC’s proposal to limit its participation to no more than 50% and its awareness of potential partners, had not been reported above.
Any final agreement – whose value remains uncertain – would require the approval of the Trump administration, which does not want Intel or its foundry division to belong to sources abroad, have added the sources.
Intel, TSMC, NVIDIA, AMD and Qualcomm refused to comment. The White House and Broadcom did not respond to requests for comments.
The challenge is the future of the American giant of the manufacture of Tamias, whose actions have lost more than half of their value in the past year.
Intel declared a net loss of $ 18.8 billion in 2024 – its first annual loss since 1986 – significant disabilities. As of December 31, the company’s foundry division had real estate and subsequent equipment worth 108 billion dollars, according to a company file.
Trump is impatient to transform Intel in the context of his broader efforts to strengthen the advanced manufacturing of the United States, according to three sources.
According to sources, the TSMC joint venture proposal was presented to potential partners before the Taiwanese company announced on March 3 – alongside Trump – which he planned to invest an additional $ 100 billion in the United States, including the construction of five new flea installations in the coming years. Discussions on the Intel Foundry joint venture has continued since then, TSMC seeking several flea designers as partners.
Several companies have expressed their interest in acquiring Intel parties, but two of the four sources said that Intel had refused to consider selling its flea design division separately from its foundry operations.
Qualcomm has left previous discussions to buy all or part of Intel, according to these sources and a separate source.
