Mistral AI was founded in Paris in 2023 by Arthur Mensch, Guillaume Lample and Timothée Lacroix, formerly of Google DeepMind and Meta. It releases both open-weights and commercial models and runs the Le Chat assistant. A September 2025 round led by chipmaker ASML valued it at €11.7 billion, and it aims to pass €1 billion in revenue in 2026.
