Moonshot AI was founded in Beijing in March 2023 by Yang Zhilin, Zhou Xinyu and Wu Yuxin. Its Kimi models are known for very long context and agentic coding. Kimi K3, released in July 2026 with open weights at 2.8 trillion parameters, ranked among the world's most capable models in independent evaluations, and the company was valued at about $35 billion that month.
