About
Masayoshi Son founded SoftBank in 1981 and built it into a global technology investor, from early bets on Yahoo and Alibaba to the Vision Fund and chip designer Arm. Since 2025 he has concentrated SoftBank's capital on AI, becoming one of OpenAI's largest shareholders and the financial lead of Stargate, the $500 billion US data-center venture announced at the White House in January 2025.
Son has predicted artificial superintelligence within about ten years and is betting more borrowed money on it than almost anyone.
