Ma Huateng, known as Pony Ma, co-founded Tencent in 1998 and built it into the owner of QQ, WeChat and one of the world's largest gaming businesses. Under him Tencent rebuilt its AI research team, released the Hunyuan 3 models in 2026 and built AI assistants into WeChat.
Ma controls one of the world's largest distribution channels for AI: a super-app used by more than a billion people.
