LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Wednesday morning, Governor Beshear attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new high-tech building in Nicholasville.
The company is called Badger Technologies. They’re making robots that you may soon see roaming the aisles of grocery stores and department stores, collecting data on what items are in stock.
“We have the ability to detect everything from the shelves you see behind me and the products on them, to clothing and a variety of other things,” said Emil Martinez, CEO of Badger Technologies. “We mainly manage in-store conditions and collect data on in-store conditions. »
Robots that scan barcodes for out-of-stock items, check inventory and detect potential slip and fall hazards.
CEO Emil Martinez says the cost of running the machines depends on the circumstances.
“It costs less than a full-time associate at $15 a year to operate,” Martinez said.
Martinez says grocery or department store workers shouldn’t worry about these robots replacing them.
“We believe multifunctional robots will work alongside the associates of the future, making them bigger, better, faster and stronger than they are today,” Martinez said.
The governor agrees.
“The more technology you add into a business, the more people you also add, the more you accomplish overall,” said Governor Beshear. “We found that with Amazon and their plant in northern Kentucky, where they have 2,000 robots, they also have 2,000 employees.”
Currently, you can find these machines at some home improvement stores like Ace Hardware.
Robots have the ability to provide security and disinfect rooms using ultraviolet light.
Badger Technologies has designed more than 1,000 high-tech machines during its history.
