Funded by the American Ministry of Energy, the working groups will be hosted In partnership with Berkeley Lab as part of the CEA accelerator project
Portland, Oregon (September 18, 2024) – Resources Innovation Institute (RII), a non -profit and private public partnership advanced climate resilience, announced today the subjects of its working groups under the CEA accelerator project. Funded by the American Ministry of Industrial Effectiveness and Decarbonization of the Department of Energy (IEDO) and organized in partnership with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab), each working group brings together public sector members, the university world , of the private sector and producers to examine the relevant critical issues for the continuous advancement of controlled environmental agriculture (CEA).
“The long -term future of the CEA depends on the current work we do to identify the tools and processes that best help producers to take advantage of opportunities to increase efficiency, to meet the daily challenges and to extend Possibilities of current operations, ”said Derek Smith, Executive Director of Resource Innovation Institute. “This year’s working groups will focus on the search for best practices for CEA operators in order to implement new technologies in culture management and automation, in the development of better energy management strategies and glean Knowledge of CEA’s successful efforts in Canada and the Netherlands. ”
Working groups include:
● Energy management working group:: By emphasizing the challenges and opportunities related to CEA energy management, this group will recommend and recommend advanced strategies on issues such as strategic energy management, cutting edge reduction, decarbonization and electrification, response to demand and distributed generation.
● Artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced robotics working group:: Like AI and CEA Robotics applications quickly advance, this group will develop and recommend the best practices of the industry for the effective adoption of these technologies in controlled environmental agriculture, including, but without Limit a forecast of utility prices for the optimization of resources.
● Industry working group on knowledge transfer to high -tech greenhouse: This group will be dedicated to facilitating the exchange of expertise, best practices and innovative strategies between greenhouse producers in greenhouse in the United States and established markets in the Netherlands and Canada. The group’s mission is to enable American producers to make knowledge and tools necessary to take advantage of high -tech design and greenhouse operations, ultimately improving productivity, sustainability and competitiveness within the industry.
Each group will produce a guide for best related practices designed to serve as a resource for CEA operators who work to manage resources more effectively. The groups started in May with the initial meeting of the working group on energy management, with work for all groups to be completed in early 2025. The partnership between RII, Iedo and Berkeley Lab is done in the heels of a collaboration of a year between RII, its members, university partners and greenhouse and interior operators who have developed a basis for comparison of CEA, reports and best practices thanks to a subsidy funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The essential objective of this partnership is to put these assets and strategies on the market with the capacity of the CEA industry growth scale.

About the Berkeley laboratory
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) undertakes to provide solutions for humanity through clean energy research, a healthy planet and a science of discovery. Founded in 1931 on the conviction that the biggest problems are better resolved by the teams, Berkeley Lab and its scientists were recognized with 16 Nobel Prize winners. Researchers from around the world are counting on world class scientific installations in the laboratory for their own pioneering research. Berkeley Lab is a national multi -program laboratory managed by the University of California for the Science Bureau of the American Energy Department.
