Cohere was founded in Toronto in 2019 by Aidan Gomez, Nick Frosst and Ivan Zhang. It sells its Command models and North agent platform to businesses and governments that want AI deployed privately. It reported about $240 million in annual revenue in early 2026 and in April 2026 agreed to acquire Germany's Aleph Alpha.
