Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook in 2004 and leads Meta, whose apps reach billions of people every day. Meta's Llama models made it the most prominent big-tech backer of open-weight AI from 2023. In 2025 he created Meta Superintelligence Labs, hiring heavily from rival labs and committing hundreds of billions of dollars to AI data centers.
Zuckerberg says Meta's goal is 'personal superintelligence for everyone'. Meta's April 2026 Muse Spark model was released closed, a notable break from the company's earlier open-source stance.
