Taipei, January 31 (CNA), the Taiwan Digital Affairs Ministry (MODA) said on Friday that public sector workers would be prohibited from using Deepseek, a recently published Chinese artificial intelligence model due to concerns about Data leaks to the Chinese government.
In a press release, Moda said that Deepseek IA is a Chinese ICT product and service warned that potential data leaks may have a risk of national security.
Moda said the ban applies to employees of central and local government agencies, public schools, public enterprises and other semi-official organizations, but has not developed details or application measures.
Moda added that the ban also applies to those working on critical infrastructure projects and in foundations with government.
Moda cited the executive regulation of the 2019 executive, “Principles on the restriction of the use of products which endanger national cybersecurity”, which prohibits government agencies from using ICT products and services which may present a risk national security.
The ban on the Taiwan public sector on Chinese chatbot occurred a few days after several governments around the world have moved to restrict employee access to software.
The Italian data protection authority announced on Thursday that it had blocked the Chinese AI model Deepseek due to a lack of transparency regarding its use of personal data.
US and Australian officials have also raised confidentiality problems.
The Chinese chatbot recently rocked the global technology market with its AI model, which would be rival with American products despite leaning on lower fleas.
